Women only African Safari

So you have always wanted to go on an African safari! Join us as we go on a wild adventure: kicking off in Nairobi, we head out into the dark continent to visit an array of game reserves. See African animals in their true habitat - cheetah, hippos, zebras, giraffes plus many more - it's an all-star cast!

The Pink Flamingoes of Lake Nukuru are a sight to behold - not to mention a multitude of other beautiful African birds, as we drive through spectacular African landscapes of mountains, lakes, rivers and forests.

We visit a Masai tribe in their huts and see how they live. Some nights we camp under the starry African sky, other nights we use accommodation. For those interested in primates, you may wish to take a chimpanzee walk or track the mighty mountain gorillas in Rwanda.

We finish off the trip having fun helping out at Ruhengeri orphanage. This trip is unbeatable and one thing is for sure: the African people, wildlife and landscapes will get under your skin, and Africa will always claw at your heart.

Rwanda, home of the mountain gorilla

Day 16,17,18,19 Uganda - Ruhengeri (Musenze), Rwanda

Today we cross into Rwanda and drive through to Ruhengeri (Musenze) where we base ourselves for the next four days. We will be staying at The Pastoral Centre of our Lady Fatima which has a lively rooftop bar, and is only five minutes walk from the town centre.

One of the days here will be: Gorilla Trekking Day! We will be picked up early in the morning and taken up to the park entrance headquarters. From here we will be split into groups of 8 with a guide and park rangers and driven to the Parc National des Volcans to begin our hike in to see the awesome Mountain Gorillas. Expect to trek anything from 1 to 4-hours around and up a thickly forested volcano with overhanging vines, moss covered trees and giant Lobelias that thrive in the tropical climate. Depending on where the gorillas are, you may have to go off the track and climb steeply through thick bush. After all the effort of your climb, your heart will be in your throat when you finally come across a family of gorillas.

There are only around 700 gorillas left in the world and nothing could be more of a privilege than to spend an hour watching them as they go about their daily routine of feeding, playing, cleaning and resting in their own territory. An unforgettable experience! On another of our days here we will be trekking out into the villages we spend time with the locals and visit the "widows huts" where we learn how the widows live, work and cook their local foods. A fun and rewarding experience.

We also have a free day in Ruhengeri to explore the markets and maybe buy some colourful African fabric - maybe get a fabulour new outfit made by one of the local tailors!
